thanks dear ada for the link to ace jet 170-- a design blog that has some really wonderful photos of penguin poet books from the 50's a 60's. these books seriously make my heart flutter. i wish i could afford to start a collection. many of them were created by stephen russ, a textile designer i want to learn more about. this top one is my favorite.... ahhh, so incredibly inspiring.

i'm always kind of fascinated by cut paper sculptures. this one above (just a detail) is by christine buckton tillman. she has really great photos of her work on flickr. i'd love to have one of her ceramic logs. (via seamsters-- thanks!)

lisa wong jackson, of good on paper, sent me this great photo of her living room and her cute dog pixel-- and my pillow! it's such a great photo. lisa is a fellow entrepreneur, whose work i really admire-- & i like browsing her site, especially her list of links to things that influence her.

i've FINALLY set up a flickr account. for now, it's mostly photos/images i've already posted here... but i'll be adding more soon.

thanks kathleen, for introducing me to the work of ceramicist toshiko takaezu. toshiko was a guest teacher when kathleen did a summer art program at skidmore in '97. toshiko was born in hawaii in 1922, and has been working in clay for over 50 years. i really love the acorn shape, which seems to be her signature. beautiful photos kathleen! (more on kathleen's blog: cake & pie).

i rediscovered this great story in japanese magazine casa brutus, from a couple years ago. it was a special issue called muji gorgeous, and various designers used muji products in creative ways... my favorite was this collage wallpaper by mintdesigns. here's the photo above, and images of the mintdesigns line below...

my friend allison gave me this great book on brazilian artist beatriz milhazes. beatriz "uses tropical fauna and flora, folk art, craft, jewellery, embroidery, lace, {and} carnival and colonial baroque as her major thematic sources". here are some photos from the book, including one of beatriz's studio.

i wish i could see the latest amanda barr exhibit at the branch gallery, in durham, nc. i found the branch website through clive & sunshine, whose work has also exhibited there. only one photo of the latest show, golden hiccups, is shown on the site-- but photos from a past exhibit of work by amanda barr make me want to see more.

i have one of these wonderful stuffed owls by alison corrie from sodafine-- i found out via seamsters that there's a whole slew of animals! i love the hand drawn style screen printed over liberty fabric. i'd like a penguin next...

the little cakes gallery is reopening, with an inaugural show called "taza taza" by guillermina baiguera & julian gatto. the show is inspired by "hidden treasures" and "forgotten junk" that we all find as children in the attic or basement-- things that "feel strangely powerful and fragile at the same time". little cakes little gallery is located on east 6th street between avenue b and avenue c. the show runs from september 8th to september 30th, 2006.
